Short Bio

Dr. Besserer-Offroy is a Post-Doctoral Research Associate in the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics at McGill University and a Faculty Lecturer in the School of Pharmacy at Université de Montréal. Dr. Besserer-Offroy received his ASc in Biological Sciences in 2009 from the Université de Franche-Comté (France), which he followed with a BMSc in Medical Biochemistry from the Université Claude-Bernard - Lyon I (France) in 2010. Then, he crossed the Atlantic Ocean and completed his PhD in Pharmacology at the Université de Sherbrooke under the supervision of Prof. Sarret in 2017. During his graduate studies, Dr. Besserer-Offroy was interested in  characterizing novel G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) ligands for the treatment of chronic pain but also in deciphering cellular signaling pathways associated with the physiological effects observed in vivo of such GPCRs. In 2017-18, Élie was an Associate Researcher for an academic consortium partnering with a biotech company. During this time, he worked on on the development of a new generation of ion channel biosensors with preclinical applications in target validation and drug discovery.

Dr. Besserer-Offroy is supported by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé for his post-doctoral fellowship and is a collaborator on different research grant funded at the University- or Provincial-level. Since he started his research career, Élie presented his work at several national and international scientific conferences, published many peer-reviewed research papers in scientific journals as lead author, and his listed as an inventor on a patent.
